Your view of the law colors your overall perspective of the Christian life and shapes your approach to the entire Old Testament....

In most cases torah refers to divine commandments. Genesis 26:5 provides an example from the time of Abraham. Typically the commandments in view are those that Yahweh gave through Moses (Exod. 24:12), encompassing specific directives on multiple areas of life (Lev. 6:14; 14:2) or legal decisions based on them (Deut. 17:11), many of which involve legal, physical penalties. Torah was then used to identify collections of these commandments (Deut. 30:10) or the entire Mosaic Law—the Torah (1 Kings 2:3).
